Dear Coaches and BLSC Committee,

I am writing to apply for the role of BLSC Club Captain for the following 2026-27 season. Over the last 7 years at this club, swimming has become a massive part of my life, and my time at Black Lion has shaped me as a person. Given the opportunity, I would love the chance to be able to give back to the club that has taken a 5 year old, who was afraid to put her head under water, and turned her into a member of top squad. I wish to apply for the position of Club Captain to be able to share the same encouraging experience I've had with the club with the younger, newer swimmers and to, overall, be able to help create an even stronger, more positive environment for everyone.

I feel very passionately about swimming, and I believe my love for the sport can be reflected in my strong work ethic across training and competitions. I always try to give 110% effort into everything I do, and I would look forward to the opportunity to do the same in this position. From volunteering my time supporting at galas to leading warm ups, I would work very hard to fulfil my role as Club Captain.

As well as this, I try to always be a supportive and encouraging teammate. Whether it’s cheering people on at meets or just trying to be there to comfort my peers after a race that hasn't gone to plan, I always try to make sure everyone feels welcome and part of the team. I know how important it is to have someone to turn to, not just in the moments of highs, but also the lows. I would enjoy being able to be that person for my teammates.

Having been part of the club this long, I have become one of the most senior and experienced members of SD1. I have seen many swimmers come and go throughout my time in the squad, and I am now the longest-standing current SD1 swimmer, with everyone who was there when I first joined having since moved on. This has given me a unique perspective on the club, and I feel I have gained a valuable amount of experience that I can share with younger swimmers. With this being my final full year before I leave for university, I want to make the most of my time at the club and give something back to the environment that has supported me for so many years.

If I became Club Captain, I’d focus on making sure everyone feels included and motivated. I’d encourage people to step up for volunteering roles and help out with club events, such as Splash Night, getting involved with club activities. I believe I would be good for this role as I believe I have strong relationships with my teammates, not just in SD1 and 2 but, whilst volunteering for my DofE in the past and attending a wide range of galas, I have also had the pleasure of speaking to our swimmers in the younger squads. As a result, I think I would be well suited to encourage our swimmers across all squads.

I’m confident talking to both swimmers and coaches and would always be there to listen and share ideas, helping to further the club. I’d also take an active role at galas: helping with warm-ups and making sure everyone feels prepared and supported for their races.

This role means a lot to me because BLSC has been such a big part of my life for so long now. It goes without saying that none of my swimming achievements would have been possible without the clubs support and I feel this position would enable me to be able to return some of my immense gratitude into being able to assist the club. I feel I am ready to take on the responsibility to grow as a leader and help make the club the best it can be.
